For some reason the iPhone 3G will not connect to this wireless router. There has been talk that this is fixed in the latest firmware but as of writing this it is not fixed in the latest AU/NZ firmware (1.00.23).
I found a temporary solution for the problem though. If you limit your router to 802.11B only then the iPhone will connect without a problem. As soon as it’s changed to mixed network or 802.11G only then it will fail to connect.
Update: I’ve found that the AU firmware from the AU linksys site works fine on the NZ WAG54Gv3. I’m using 1.00.46 and the iPhone 3G now connects under 802.11G without a problem.
Thank you so much for this post.
You have finally put an end to 4 days of resetting, restoring, reading support articles, reading dozens of forum posts on “ipod touch 2.0 wi-fi problems” …..
i upgraded the router firmware and it all works fine.
thanks again! 🙂
Hey dude,
I have a WAG54g V3, and I’m running 1.00.63 if you want a copy of it.
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. This was driving me mentally insane! Firmware upgrade worked + got some bonus features on my router 😉
Hi There,
I had the same problem, and also upgraded the firmware which seemed to fix the iphone connectivity, but I have since noticed poor connection to the internet through the router and rang my provider, they told me that it has been dropping out regularly since July 11th (iPhone day) and also the day that I upgraded the firmware.
Has anyone else had this issue.
Thanks
You Guys Rock!!! I have not been able to use my iPod touch since upgrading it to V2 Software. This is awesome!!!
I’m not sure if this will help anyone, but running 1.00.46 and choosing channel 1 caused me no end of problems, I changed it up to channel 11 and it’s fixed it.
I’ve got no idea what’s causing this, microwave not running, my cordless phone is a 5.8ghz, stumber can’t find anything on channel 1.
thank youuuuuuu! i got my iphone wifi work now with WAG54G v3 by upgrading the firmware

Interesting theories guys, but I’ve still got some problems I’m trying to iron out.
Last week I bought an iPhone 3GS, and was confounded that it wouldn’t work on my WAG54 V3. It would apparently ‘connect’ fine, but no internet data would actually pass though it (Safari would just say there wasn’t a connection). I upgraded the firmware (1.00.46), altered security settings, G-B or mixed modes, nothing has worked.
Does anyone else have this problem? I’ve tried it on other wireless networks and it works fine.
Ok, thanks to “mjsais” of the Apple forums I finally found my answer. Hopefully this will help someone else, as it had downright stumped me.
Answer: Change your network DNS address to the static IP of the router. Simple enough as the router knows all the ISP data, but damned if I’d thought of doing it.
In case this helps, I had the WAG54G V3 running on ‘G’ mode and using 1.00.46 firmware.
This is so awesome. Thank for your valuable post.
Crap, This Doesn’t Help Me, I Am Tapped Into The Neighbours Via WiFi, Can’t Do An Update Via WiFi, As It Will Wipe Their Settings.
I changed mixed to only G and it worked! Thanks!
